Social GIS: History and Migration

The SocialGIS workgroup is connected to the Historical Department and the Institute for Migration Studies and Intercultural Research (IMIS) at Osnabrück University and centers around the Chair for Modern History and Historical Migration Studies

We explore new ways to visualise and analyse historical processes based on time- and georeferenced mass data, often from biographical datasets and often with regard to mobility and migration.

SocialGIS@uos: Prof. Dr. Christoph Rass, Dr. Marcel Berlinghoff, Dr. Sebastian Huhn, Sebastian Bondzio, Olaf Berg, Lukas Hennies, Malte Schwickert and Philip Sonnack.

SocialGIS is also closely connected to the People on the Move-Consortium (PotM) formed by researchers at the International Tracing Service (ITS) at Bad Arolsen, the NIOD Institute for War, Holocaust and Genocide Studies, Amsterdam, and the Institute for Migration Research and Intercultural Studies (IMIS) at Osnabrück University.

PotM: Olaf Berg (IMIS), Dr. Henning Borggräfe (ITS), Dr. Christian Groh (ITS), Prof. Dr. Christoph Rass (IMIS) and Prof. Dr. Ismee Tames (NIOD).

This site features selected previews from ongoing projects and explorations of data.
